Story - My Hole-in-One Story

I am Matt Underwood, the PGA HOPE Ambassador to the Tidewater, VA region. I served in the U. S. Navy, including a year in Afghanistan, and several other surface ship deployments and staff assignments.

As a result of my service, I was diagnosed with PTSD as well as several other mental health disorders. Golf, through the PGA HOPE program, has been instrumental in my journey back to a place of health from the places these disorders took me.

HOPE

HOPE is the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America. HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) introduces golf to Veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. HOPE provides golf instruction by qualified and trained PGA professionals to veterans nationwide, entirely free of charge for the veterans.

PGA REACH (Middle Atlantic) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and philanthropic arm of the Middle Atlantic PGA Section.

Purpose

The HOPE program has been instrumental in providing me a path back from my disorders to my family and normalcy. I am embarking on this 100 Holes of Golf to give back to this program that has done so much for my family in the way that I able!

I'm asking for your support! All contributions will go directly towards the work of PGA HOPE in the Tidewater area. My goal of $15,000 will allow us to not only be self-sufficient for next year's clinics, but also allow us to expand the great work being done here in Hampton Roads by a fantastic group of local professionals and volunteers to reach even more veterans.

Event

I will play 100 holes worth of golf at Bide-A-Wee golf course on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov 11, 2022. I will use four balls in a "best drive" event, red, white, blue, and black balls. The first three are for our National colors, and the black represents all the POWS and MIAs whom we still owe a debt to.

I will tee off with all four balls, select the best drive, and play the four balls individually from there on in.

"The Pledge" is as follows:

$150 if my overall final score is between 300 and 400
$80 if my final score is between 400 and 500,
$50 if my final overall score is 500 or greater.
